Step 1: Restore to iOS 5.0 GM

Step 2: Start Redsn0w, press on “Extras> Select IPSW” and point it to iOS 5.0 beta 7 firmware ipsw file.

Step 3: Now select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Optionally (if available), you can also select any other option you like.

Step 4: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”. At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will be guided on how to enter DFU mode. Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

TomTom’s iPad App is on the Horizon

Are you a TomTom iPhone app user? Ever wish that your little 3.5? screen was just a bit bigger for GPS navigation? Perhaps, I don’t know, say.. 9.7? big for example? Oh, you have? Then you’re in luck, as the sat nav company has announced that it will be bringing its popular iPhone app to the iPad – and it won’t cost existing owners a penny.
Slated for release this Fall, the app will be a free upgrade to the existing iPhone app, turning it into a fully-fledged universal app…
So, what do all those extra inches get you?
According to the guys at Pocket-Lint, who were lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the app,
the extra real-estate afforded by that huge screen will mean we no longer have to switch between screens for information, and the app itself can display more navigational data simultaneously, which is always a good thing!

“What you benefit from on the iPad is the superb size and sensitivity of the touchscreen, the like of which satnavs have been failing to ape for years. What that real estate now means is that there’s space to split the screen with window views within. Practically speaking, that means that you don’t have to surf the menus and experience the advanced lane guidance view as a screen switch but instead at the very same time along side the route map.”

The issue now appears to be a severe lack of any TomTom branded iPad dock for your car. Hoisting that great big lump of aluminium and glass into the air is no easy job, and you’ll be wanting a sturdy contraption if you’re going to trust it with your pride and joy. While there are third-party solutions out there, we’d feel more confident if TomTom had one they could offer up. Until then, we’re not sure we’re brave enough to risk it.
As with all iPad navigation software, you’ll need a 3G iPad, as the WiFi-only models do not support GPS. Bummer.

iPad Controlled 80% of the North American Tablet Market in Q2

When you are talking about slim, modern day tablets, the iPad was the first to market. Before Apple’s slate, the “tablet” category was filled with clunky devices that ran desktop software and carried price tags over $1,000. Obviously, being first has paid off for the company in dividends. I don’t think anyone would argue that the iPad has dominated the tablet market over the last two years, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon…

BGR passes on a report from Strategy Analysis this morning that points to some interesting findings. The market research firm believes that Apple sold approximately 6 million of the 7.5 million tablets shipped in the second quarter of this year.

Although the figure only represents sales in North America, the number is still staggering. Apple garnered nearly 80% of the tablet market on the continent in Q2, with essentially the same product (albeit slimmer and faster) that it launched in 2010.

SA analyst Alex Spektor:

“Apple remains a long way ahead of its main rivals such as Motorola, Samsung, RIM, Asus and HTC. A combination of cool branding, user-friendly hardware, entertaining services and savvy retail distribution has made Apple a formidable market leader.”

With HP and webOS dropping out of the tablet game, and RIM looking like it is close to pulling the plug as well, Apple’s forecast is looking good. And on top of that, holiday season is around the corner. Yeah, Tim Cook and company don’t need an iPad 3 this year.

One of the biggest things I’m concerned with on my smart phone is battery life. What good is a wireless phone if it always needs to be plugged in? With some of my older iPhones (iPhone 2G, 3G), it was a major
issue. But since I’ve gotten my iPhone 4, it’s never really been a problem.
I’ve had Android and Blackberries for work phones in the past, and I can honestly say the iPhone 4 is the best when it comes to battery life. Well it looks like my experience are in line with most everybody else’s, as cnet test results confirm that the iPhone is top dog… The iPhone 4 from AT&T was able to playback video for 9.9 hours straight, while the Verizon version topped it with 10.3 hours. The best Android competitor was the Google Nexus S, made by Samsung, which checked in at 8.1 hours. Coming in dead last is the HTC MyTouch 4G, the one you see in the T-mobile commercials bashing the iPhone 4 for lack of wireless video chat, at 6.6 hours of video playback.

The audio playback tests were even more enlightening. The Verizon iPhone 4 topped out at 67 hours of audio playback, while the HTC MyTouch 4G topped Android phones with 21 hours. It was also interesting to see that the AT&T iPhone, while still well above the Android competition, came in at 40 hours of audio playback.
What’s with the 27 hour difference? Unlike the video tests, the audio playback trials were done with airplane mode off, so it’s likely they were in an area with poor AT&T coverage. When a phone constantly searches for service, the battery will drain quicker due to the strain.

What does GM (Gold Master) mean ?

The final beta version of a program that is ready to be released to the public. The entire goal of the beta process is to arrive at the gold master candidate. iOS 5 Siri Assistant Officially Unveiled

As expected Apple announced today a new significant iOS upgrade, the Assistant feature that should offer iPhone 4S users an even-better, voice control based, smartphone experience.
And it looks like Apple is calling this baby Siri instead of Assistant, which makes plenty of sense since the technology used to develop it has been developed by Siri, a company Cupertino purchased a while ago.
What will the Siri assistant be able to for you? Phil Shiller talked about it on stage during the “Let’s talk iPhone” event explaining that the app will be able to really understand you and answer questions like (when asking about weather only):
What is the weather like today?
Do I need an umbrella today?
What’s the upcoming forecast?
Is the weather going to get worse today?
Will it rain in Cupertino?
That’s certainly impressive stuff as it seems the Siri assistant is a more than average app, one that can understand various questions and commands and deliver proper responses.

How does it work? Just hold down the Home button and start asking questions or input commands. Siri will react to your voice and deliver proper responses when:

talking about the weather,
telling the time in a different time zone,
setting up an alarm,
offering NASDAQ quotes,
booking restaurant reservations,
providing directions,
read and reply to SMS messages,
check and schedule calendar appointments,
setup reminders,
search the web for information,
offer words definitions,
convert foreign currency,
answer various other simple questions.
When asked who Siri is it will provide a simple answer: “I am a humble personal assistant.”

Dictation is another important feature of the iPhone 4S. You can use it to write up fast emails, and messages, and it’s going to be available to iPhone 4S users, just as expected.

Siri and Dictation will work with natural, conversational language, over either 3G or Wi-Fi and it will support three languages at first, English (US, UK and Australia), French and German.

How to restore your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad

Curious how to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it’s acting funny and nothing else will work?

Need to install a beta or custom firmware? Whether you’re experiencing freezes, crashes, or your iPhone or iPad is just doing other crazy things – a restore will fix most of your woes. Restores are also something developers need to know about to test beta firmware, and jailbreakers should become very familiar with, as sometimes it can make your phone a little less stable than it is stock. To restore, whether on a Mac or PC:
Plug your iPhone, iPod, or iPad into your computer.
If iTunes doesn’t automatically launch, go ahead and launch it.

To the left, you’ll see a sidebar, click on your device.

You’ll see a restore option.

(Make sure you backup your phone first. A sync can do this, or you can right click on your device name in the sidebar and select backup.)

Then simply click that and let iTunes do it’s thing for a few minutes.

When the restore has finished you’ll be asked to either set up as a new iPhone or restore from a backup. If you choose to restore from a backup and your device still acts funny afterwards (i.e. the problem returned with the backup), I’d recommend doing the restore again and this time setting up as a new device. Then re-sync your content.

To install different or custom firmware (say you need to test iOS 4.2 GM or say you’re on 4.0.2 and you don’t want 4.1 for some reason), hold down Option (Mac) or CTRL (Windows) while you click restore, then navigate to your then navigate to the firmware you want.

This is a pretty basic function of iTunes but one anyone that owns an iOS device should learn how to do. Always make frequent backups and sync your phone regularly to ensure you won’t lose your content if something should go wrong with your device.

Creating an iTunes App Store account without a credit card

To create an iTunes App Store account without a credit card please follow the steps below. In order to create an account without a credit card, you must make sure you are in the App Store, not the iTunes Store.
1.If you already have an account, open iTunes. From the menu bar choose Store > Sign Out.
2.Click iTunes Store (on the left side of the iTunes window) and pick your country by clicking the appropriate country flag located in the bottom-right corner of the main iTunes Store page.
3.Navigate to the App Store by clicking on App Store from the top navigation bar.

4.Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install a free app. To find a free app, navigate to the Top Charts column on the right hand side of the App Store window. Scroll down until you can see the list of Free Apps. Select any app by clicking on it, then click Free App underneath the app icon.

5.In the pop-up window, click Create New Account.

6.You are directed to the "Welcome to the iTunes Store" screen. Click Continue.

7.You'll need to read and agree to the iTunes Store Terms & Conditions. Make sure you check the box next to where it says "I have read and agree to the iTunes Terms and Conditions."

8.Click Continue.

9.Enter your email address, create your password, continue to create and answer your security question, then enter your birthday. Click Continue.

10.Select None as the payment option.

11.Continue to fill out the required name and address fields.

12.You'll then see a screen that says 'Verify your Account'. Click Done and then check your email for a verification email from iTunes Store.

13.Open the email and click the link enclosed in the email to activate your account.

14.Once you click on the link, iTunes should then prompt you to sign in with your account name and password.

iPhone 4 pricing The all new iPhone 4 is available in two colors, white and black, and each has two different storage capacity options that effect the price of the phone.

Keep in mind that in the USA, to get iPhone 4 at these prices you will have to renew or sign up for a 2 year contract with AT&T.

You’ll be able to buy iPhone 4 outside of an AT&T contract for an unsubsidized price, but it’s not cheap:

The reason for the high price is because the phone is no longer subsidized by the AT&T 2-year commitment. Suddenly that contract is looking appealing huh? But be sure to get the right data plan for your use.
iPhone 4 Wireless Data Plans pricing
If you’re a new AT&T customer you’ll have three data plans and pricing options to choose from:

Data Plus – 200MB of data for $15/month
DataPro – 2GB of data for $25/month, additional 1GB of data for $10
Tethering – Requires DataPro Plan, plus an additional $20/month for tethering support
It’s really important to know how much data you use, so if you’re an existing customer be sure to check your AT&T iPhone data usage before going into a new plan.
What about Unlimited Data? Unlimited Data is no longer offered, but if you are a current AT&T customer and you are still under an iPhone unlimited data contract, you can keep the unlimited data plan for $30/month as long as you do not let the contract or plan lapse. If you let it lapse or do not renew the unlimited data contract, you will not be able to get unlimited data again on AT&T. Again, once you lose unlimited data you will not get it again!

Cost of upgrading to iPhone 4 from an iPhone 3G or 3GS

You’ll be able to upgrade to iPhone 4 if you already are in contract with an iPhone 3G or 3GS, but you’ll need to:

Sign a new 2 year contract with AT&T

Pay an $18 contract renewal fee

Note the $18 fee is waived for many people who’s contract expires anytime in 2010. You can check your AT&T iPhone upgrade eligibility to find out your contract eligibility and if the fee applies to you. The above applies to those iPhone 3G and 3GS subscribers who upgrade in 2010, after 2010 the price of the new iPhone goes up to $399 and $499, so if you’re thinking about upgrading you’ll want to do it in 2010.

Rebates and Credits for recent iPhone 3GS purchasers?

According to MacRumors, AT&T will be offering both rebates and credits to recent purchasers of iPhone 3GS.

AT&T will be offering bill credit rebates for users who purchased an iPhone 3GS between May 7th and June 7th, with customers set to receive $50 (16 GB) or $100 (32 GB) if they file a request with the company. The offer is good for 30 days from the date of purchase, with those in the early portion of the purchase window (May 7th through May 14th) having until June 14th to file their requests.

The same story reports that AT&T may be offering iPhone 3GS users the option to upgrade to iPhone 4 if they pay the price difference between the phones:

iPhone 3GS customers who purchased handsets between May 7th and June 7th the option to upgrade to iPhone 4, only paying applicable price differences. Customers who purchased a “closeout” iPhone 3GS after June 7th are not eligible for these offers.

This information has not been confirmed and is based on some documents obtained by a third party. It’s entirely possible the rebates and credits won’t hold true.

Basically, Apple feels that Samsung is infringing on a variety of iPhone and iPad patents, and Apple is fairly blunt in their accusations:“Instead of pursuing independent product development, Samsung has chosen to slavishly copy Apple’s innovative technology, distinctive user interfaces, and elegant and distinctive product and packaging design, in violation of Apple’s valuable intellectual property rights. ”Several examples of these alleged violations can be seen in the image below, judge for yourself:

The “inspiration” is really quite obvious, but whether or not it’s enough for Apple to win a lawsuit against Samsung (or others) remains to be seen. AirPlay

Starting in iOS 5, AirPlay is enabled by default for video content in applications and websites.
In iOS 5, AV Foundation adds support for video playback via AirPlay.
APIs

The NSNetService class and CFNetService APIs do no include P2P interfaces by default. To browse, register, or resolve services over P2P interfaces, an application needs to use the Bonjour DNSService*() APIs noted below.
Setting the interfaceIndex parameter to kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny in the following API’s will not include P2P interfaces by default. To include P2P interfaces, you must now set thekDNSServiceFlagsIncludeP2P flag when using kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny or set the interfaceIndex to kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexP2P. The affected APIs are:

API Validation

In the iOS 5 development tools, it is possible to extract APIs used by an application and have them checked for use of private APIs. This option is offered when you validate your application for app submission.
Apple TV

The Apple TV Software enables users to mirror the contents of an iPad 2 to an Apple TV (2nd generation) using AirPlay. This software also enables Photo Stream on Apple TV so users can access photos stored in iCloud. Apple TV Software beta is being provided to test the latest AirPlay functionality with your iOS 5 apps and web sites. If you wish to install Apple TV Software beta on your device, you must first register your device UDID in the iOS Developer Program Portal.
Automatic Reference Counting

In Xcode, if the configuration is set to Device and there is a space in the path of one of the source files (more commonly, the project is inside a directory with spaces), the “Convert to Automatic Reference Counting” step (after Precheck) will fail with error: Error in format of file: .If encountered, the user should switch to Simulator and retry the migration.
Binary Compatibility

On applications linked against the iOS 5 SDK, scroll view content offsets will no longer be rounded to integral pixels during a pinch gesture.
GameKit

Match data for turn-based matches is limited to 4 KB.
FIXED: Auto-matching with the turn-based view controller does not work. Invites or the direct auto-match API can be used as a workaround.
iCloud Backup

Backups made prior to September 22nd are no longer available. It is strongly advised to upgrade to this version of iOS 5 in order to continue backing up your devices
iCloud Storage

In the iCloud key-value store, the maximum number of keys has been raised to 256.
All newly generated provisioning profiles are now automatically enabled for iCloud. If you are using an Xcode managed Team Provisioning Profile, click refresh in the Xcode Organizer to obtain a new iCloud-enabled profile. To enable all other provisioning profiles for iCloud, simply regenerate your profiles in the iOS Provisioning Portal.
If your application is using the NSMetadataQuery class, you must set a predicate and the predicate is now honored. But the predicate is an NSPredicate-style predicate, not a Spotlight-style predicate. An example of the difference is that you must use LIKE instead of = for wildcard matching. The differences are defined in more detail at:http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Predicates/Articles/pSpotlightComparison.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002370-SW1.
The setSortDescriptors: method of NSMetadataQuery is not supported.
To enable iCloud storage within your apps in iOS 5, click the Enable Entitlements checkbox in the Summary pane of your project. Xcode creates a custom entitlements file for your project that automatically includes your Team ID. You can add additional iCloud Container values as required by your application. (Note that you must regenerate your existing provisioning profiles, either with Xcode or in the iOS Provisioning Portal, to use iCloud storage.)
The container identifier string you pass to the URLForUbiquityContainerIdentifier: method of NSFileManager must include the team ID at the beginning of the string. As a convenience, you can pass nil to retrieve the first document container ID specified in your app’s entitlements.
In iOS 5, files that are protected via Data Protection cannot be used with iCloud Storage APIs.
File presenters—objects that adopt the NSFilePresenter protocol—do not receive some of the messages that they are supposed to receive, including:
presentedSubitemDidChangeAtURL:
As a work around, implement the relinquishPresentedItemToWriter: method and check to see if the writer actually wrote when your file presenter reacquires the file.
If you report a bug related to the iCloud storage interfaces, please include the logs collected during your debugging session. To generate these logs, you must install a special debug profile on your device.The debug profile can be obtained from http://connect.apple.com. This profile enables the generation of debug logs that are needed to diagnose any problems using iCloud storage. The instructions to collect the logs are:
Install the profile. (The easiest way to do this is to mail it to yourself and open the attachment on your device.)
Reproduce the bug.

Sync with iTunes to pull the logs off your device.
Attach the logs to your bug report. You can find the logs in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/DiagnosticLogs.
These logs can grow large very quickly, so you should remove the profile after you have reproduced the problem and pulled the logs of your device.
File names are case-insensitive in Mac OS X but case-sensitive in iOS. This can lead to problems when sharing files between the two using iCloud. You should take steps on iOS to avoid creating files whose names differ only by case.
iTunes

The version of iTunes that comes with the GM release cannot sync devices that have the beta 7 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:
Sync any devices that have beta 7 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 7.
Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with the GM release.
Connect the device and install the GM software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)
After installing the GM software, restore from your backup you made in step 1.
Music Player

FIXED: When deleting a song or video from Music/Videos on the device, the Music Player app crashes.
Security

In iOS 5, the signing of certificates with MD5 signatures is not supported. Please ensure that certificates use signature algorithms based on SHA1 or SHA2.
Springboard

Push and local notifications for apps appear in the new Notification Center in iOS 5. Notification Center displays notifications that are considered “unread.” To accommodate push and local notifications that have no unread status, set your application’s badge count to 0 to clear that app’s notifications from Notification Center.
UI Automation

When using the performTaskWithPathArgumentsTimeout method of UIAHost in a UI Automation script where the API outputs excessively (say, thousands of lines of text) to standard out or standard error, the task may deadlock until the timeout is reached, at which point it will throw a JavaScript exception.
The lock() and unlock() functions of UIATarget have been replaced with the lockForDuration() function.
In iOS 5, you can now trigger the execution of a UI Automation script on an iOS device from the host terminal by using the instruments tool. The command is:
instruments -w -t
When using the cli instruments for UI Automation you can now target the default Automation Template and pass the script and results path into the tool as environment variable options. For example:

There are many solutions to solve this error, but I am going to show you the most efficient & easy ones.

Many of us face the dreaded “Cannot Connect To Youtube” error after jailbreaking iPhone and iPod Touch. The error is caused due to some signature turbulence caused by jailbreaking tools and isn’t common to every jailbreaker. The fix for this error is very simple and all you need to have is Cydia store installed on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Solution 1: Check whether your iDevice’s Date & Time is upto date, if not, update it and give the Youtube app a try.

In order to fix YouTube on iPhone and iPod Touch after jailbreak, you need to follow these simple steps:

1.The first step is to launch Cydia.

2.Now tap on search and type “Youtube Fix”.

3.Once search results are displayed, tap YouTube Fix #1 .

These are instructions on how to backup your phone data via SHSH using explorer's

After updating your jailbreaked iPhone to a new firmware it is always advised to set you phone as a new phone during the first sync after updating and jailbreaking.
This will save you from battery drainage, unexpected reboot, hanging etc.
If you set your phone as a new phone you will loose many valuable data like Received SMS, Contacts, Call History, Notes, Calender etc.

Your iOS device must be jailbroken and have OpenSSH installed from Cydia because the tool basically sends the iOS app file via secure FTP protocol to your iPhone or iPod touch. The trick is in changing the app’s underlying metadata to add both devices as designated platforms. Don’t expect miracles, though. Some apps won’t work due to multitouch and design issues, like refusing to work in landscape.

The iPad 3 have already begun production, say reports, which gives plenty of credence to the thought that 2011 will see the release of the newest tablet. With these new components, word is that tablet manufacture levels are on par with what they were this summer, suggesting that earlier reports from our own J. Angelo Racoma that said Apple was looking to make the unusual move of cutting back on its iPad 2 orders going into the Christmas shopping season were indeed true, which is pretty much the opposite of what you’d expect.

But given this fact, those reports make an extra note of sense. This fact would be strange by any normal measure–normally when you’re going into a big shopping season like Christmas (which is always at least comparatively big), you get more product, not less–but if Apple’s looking to bring in a new tablet for 2012, especially if they’re looking at a first or second quarter release, it doesn’t surprise me at all that they’d start dialing back on their orders for the end of 2011. This lets the Christmas shopping rushes take care of the excess inventory (and possibly even offer up some impressive Black Friday and post-Christmas sale specials).

Almost a year after the release of the Samsung Moment, Samsung is finally adding more Android phones to the Sprint lineup. Though most data-hungry professionals might want to wait for the Samsung Epic 4G (which is also one of Samsung's Galaxy S series of handsets), the Samsung Intercept is geared more toward the budget-conscious consumer.

Design

Samsung has a tendency to stick with similar designs for most of its phones, and that is true with the Intercept. Indeed, if you didn't pay close attention to the details, the Intercept looks similar to the Samsung Acclaim, and also to the aforementioned Samsung Moment. It measures 4.43 inches long by 2.19 inches wide by 0.59 inch thick, and it has rounded corners, smooth chrome-plated sides, and a soft touch material on the battery cover that gives it a comfortable feel in the hand.

It has a smooth and responsive capacitive display, and thanks to Android 2.1, it supports pinch-to-zoom as well.

Underneath the display are the usual Android sensor hot keys laid out in a row. If you hold down the home button, a task manager will appear showing recently opened applications. On the right side are the 3.5mm headset jack and camera key. Slide the phone's display to the right, and you'll find full four-row QWERTY keyboard. The arrow keys are highlighted in gray.

Features

The Samsung Intercept comes with Android 2.1 right out of the gate, which is great news if you want a modern Android OS smartphone. We've always questioned if the Samsung TouchWiz interface fit well within Android, and thankfully the Intercept just has the standard Android UI.

The Samsung Intercept was recently introduced to the Sprint lineup as an mid-range option. It offers Android OS 2.1, a 3-inch display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Maybe in this case, "intercept" means to intercept the attention of first-time smartphone users.

BUILD & DESIGN

As with many devices that pack a sliding keyboard and touchscreen, the Intercept can seem a bit thick.

Screen

The primary feature on the front is a 3-inch, 400 by 240 pixel display.

Intercept's lower-cost roots, this is not an AMOLED or Super AMOLED screen, but a traditional reflective LCD.

It's pretty good in most lighting, and the ambient light sensor adjusts the backlight quickly and well.

Unfortunately, the major issue with this screen is outside light.

Keyboard

The Intercept's QWERTY keyboard is one of its best features. The keyboard was a feature that many people said made the Intercept a likable device.

Other Buttons and Controls

Below the screen is a touch-sensitive area of the four command buttons (Menu, Home, Search, and Back). The volume buttons (left side) and camera button (right-bottom) were a bit stubborn to work initially. Tucked away on the bottom left are a memory card slot with a 2 GB microSDHC memory card inside. The top of the right side of the Intercept has a 3.5 mm audio jack.

The Samsung Intercept runs Google's Android OS 2.1 (also known as Éclair). Wireless/Call Quality

The Samsung Intercept offers access to Sprint's 3G network (EV-DO Rev. 0) and includes Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

Productivity

The Intercept's address book is a similar affair to many other Android devices, allowing one to add accounts from places such as Google, Twitter, and MySpace -- in addition to the built-in contacts you might have. Likewise, the phone application is simple, showing a black-on-white contrast and four easy access icons to the keypad, call log, favorites, and contacts. Whether using Wi-Fi or EV-DO, the Intercept was solid in most page loads. In the music department, the Intercept is a great workout assistant. Google Maps is included.

Camera

The Intercept's camera has its own share of button gremlins. The only issue that I've seen is that the initial loading of gallery thumbnails seems to be a bit slower than other mobile devices.

Using the Samsung Intercept was a big drop down for me after using such high-end models as the Samsung Captivate. The other aspect was the size of the Intercept and the keyboard. I can recommend the Samsung Intercept. Overall, Samsung and Sprint really have a nice model here.

Some of you might have noticed the annoying 1604, 1600 error when restoring to iOS 4 custom firmware in iTunes which is built using PwnageTool. Steps to fixing 1604 iPhone restore error: 1. There is no need to reinstall iTunes or whatever. Keep the same version that you have used to restore or backup previously.2. Make sure that iPhone is disconnected from your computer and that iTunes is closed.

3. The following step of fixing 1604 iPhone restore error is Windows XP specific, if you are a Mac user, you may have to locate the folders yourselves as I am not sure: Go to folder C:\Documents and Settings\<username you use to login to windows>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. You will see one or more files. Cut and paste them somewhere else. Do not delete them in case the steps does not work for you, you can still copy them back to the folder. You can find out your username by doing a Ctrl-Alt-Del. If somehow you cannot find the folder, you are probably in the wrong user directory.

He said in his tweet, "Would've had it yesterday if I didn't have to spend 15 days looking for a replacement exploit." All eyes are on Apple this week, as the entire tech industry awaits the company’s iPhone 5 announcement. Although Tim Cook and company haven’t officially said anything yet, there’s a lot of evidence piling up that suggests it’s close. Besides the new smartphone, there are a few other highly anticipated announcements that Apple is expected to make in the coming weeks. There’s iCloud, Apple’s painless sync and storage service, and of course the major update for iOS — iOS 5. It’s been 18 days since Apple seeded Beta 7 of the new software, so we’d be remiss not to expect the next release shortly.

MacRumors helped shine some light on the subject last night, by announcing the latest word from Apple to developers: “On Thursday, September 22, the iCloud Backup data will be reset. Backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup will be unavailable from 9 AM PDT – 5 PM PDT. If you attempt a backup or restore during this time, you will receive an alert that the backup or restore was not successful. After this reset, you will be unable to restore from any backup created prior to September 22. A ful backup will happen automatically the next time your device backs up to iCloud.”As Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac points out, the iCloud reset date lines up well with the rumors of an iOS 5 GM seed on September 23rd. Game Center was reset the day before iOS 4.1 was released, so it isn’t crazy to think a GM build isn’t too far off.

The iPhone jailbreakers! Less than 24 hours after iOS5 was announced at WWDC, Apple's developer conference taking place in San Francisco this week, a member of the iPhone hacking collective known as the Dev-Team confirmed that the new operating system (OS) has been jailbroken.
Hackers already have their hands on the developer beta of the OS, which launched yesterday. It appears that this version of iOS is still susceptible to one of the existing exploits they use to provide jailbreaking tools to end users.

According to a tweet from the Dev-Team's @MuscleNerd, he was able to jailbreak iOS5 running on an iPod Touch 4G using the limera1n jailbreaking method. Unfortunately, this jailbreak is tethered, which means you have to have your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad connected (or "tethered") to your computer whenever you reboot your device, in order to maintain the jailbreak.

Most jailbreakers will likely wait for an untethered option to become available before proceeding to upgrade to the new OS.As proof of the jailbreak, @MuscleNerd posted the following screenshots of a jailbroken iOS5, showing the Cydia (jailbreak app store) and iSSH icons on the iPod Touch's homescreen. You can tell that this is iOS5 because other new icons are present, too, including "Newsstand," the new home for your newspaper and magazines subscriptions on iOS5, and "Reminders," a simple to-do list application.

Will You Still Jailbreak?

In addition, while committed jailbreakers and unlockers (those who run their iPhones on unsupported cellular networks) will probably continue to hack their phones, many more casual jailbreakers may be happy enough with iOS5 to leave it as is this time.

After all, several of the most popular tweaks and enhancements are now core to the OS itself. One notable example is that of Mobile Notifier, an alternative notification system for iOS devices. In fact, the application's creator, Peter Hajas, was hired by Apple only days before the reveal of iOS5. The similarities between the jailbreak version and Apple's striking. Pocketnow.com has recently stumbled upon a photo of a plate of sushi, supposedly taken using an iPhone 5.
Although the EXIF data points to an iPhone 4, there were some, “inaccuracies”…

Pocketnow tells it better:
“This (very attractive) photo claims to have been taken by an iPhone 4 but the rest of its EXIF data tells a different story: although the image has been cropped to 2235?2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original picture was a much larger 3264?2448 — or just shy of eight megapixels. What’s more, the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4?s actual 3.85mm f/2.8. (Remember that the upcoming HTC Runnymede is said to have an aperture of f/2.2.)”

Even though rumors and leaks involving EXIF data should be taken with a pinch of salt, (because EXIF data can be easily manipulated and faked) the fact that this photo was taken by an Apple engineer gives a lot more credence to this story. Anton D’Auria, the Apple engineer who took the photo, uploaded it to his Flickr account (which was recently been made private) and entitled it, “lunch”.

There are also some other aspects of this photo that seem to give further evidence of it being taken using an iPhone 5, like the fact that it was taken at Cupertino, CA, which is Apple’s HQ.

Sprint To Offer iPhone 5 With Unlimited Data Plan

Sprint is widely speculated to also offer Apple iPhone 5 when it is launched in the next few weeks.
According to Bloomberg, Sprint has decided to offer the iPhone 5, which is set for a mid October release, paired with an “unlimited” data plan. Bloomberg has just reported that Sprint will indeed be offering Apple iPhone 5 next month and will be offering iPhone customers an unlimited data plan to compete with AT&T and Verizon who have moved to tiered data plans.

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse mentioned that the idea will be scrapped if it starts to cost too much for the company in terms of taxes. “If I have an all-you-can-eat buffet, and the entire New England Patriots football team shows up for dinner, it’s going to run me out of business,” said Dan Hesse.

With AT&T and T-Mobile in the midst of a merge, Sprint may drop to last place in terms of carrier rankings, while Verizon is doing much better recently, with it’s iPhone sales going through the roof.

This means means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot, which is not very convenient. The good news is that Chronic Dev team are actively working to on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Chronic Dev team had released greenpois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1.

In the last few days, pod2g - member of the Chronic Dev team has tweeted:

yeah, the whole chronic-dev team is still alive and actively working on iOS 5 !

Nearly everything in my life except my job changed... Also, I worked on some exploit that took me lot of time.That would be a great mistake to give info about iOS 5 jailbreak.

There won't be untethered jailbreaks for iOS 5 betas. It would give too much intel to Apple to fix.

We may be reading too much between the lines but lets hope that the jailbreaking community has figured out to support an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. We're also quite sure that iPhone Dev team is also working on it.

It will be also interesting to see if Apple fixes the exploit that allows the tethered jailbreak in the next beta version of iOS 5, which may be the final beta version before Apple releases iOS 5 golden master and then releases it to the public.

Apple To Hold Media Event To Unveil iPhone 5 On October 5th

It is widely speculated that Apple's iPhone 5, which is already seeing unprecedented demand will be available in the first half of October. In fact, we've have heard October 7th and October 15th as the possible release dates, which means that Apple needs to have the special media event to launch their new iPhone either at the end of September or the first week of October.

PockerGamer has just reported that according to their source, Apple will be holding the special media event to finally launch iPhone 5 on October 5th.

PocketGamer reports:

Our inside source says there will be a press conference announcing the new hardware on October 5th, with retail release occurring a week later. This broadly fits with the movement of recent rumours, which peaked with a - since proven erroneous - 21st October release date, bought forward to a October 15th date, according to Orange CEO Stephane Richard.

The symbolism part is interesting, though it remains to be seen if Apple uses the date to just unveil the new iPhone or to release it to the public. It has also been rumored that iOS 5 will be released on October 10th, which seems to fit well with the October 5th launch event.

Apple is also expected to unveil the next generation iPod touch product line and a cheaper entry-level iPhone called iPhone 4S at the media event.

As most of you know, Cydia is broken and not running on the new Apple's iOS 4.2 update but today iPhone hacker Johnny Franks could make Cydia working on jailbroken iOS devices running iOS 4.2.

The new version of Cydia is not out yet but it's ready, so you can use Msft_guy's method to get Cydia working on iOS 4.2 or iOS 4.2.1.

Sprint Said to Plan Unlimited Data Offer With Apple’s IPhone

Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) will offer Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPhone next month with unlimited data service plans to distinguish itself from rivals AT&T Inc. (T) and Verizon Wireless, according to people familiar with the matter.

Becoming the country’s only operator to offer the device with unlimited data service for a flat fee may help Sprint draw customers from AT&T and Verizon Wireless, which already carry the phone, they said.

Sprint, based in Overland Park, Kansas, is struggling to compete against larger rivals and has lost money for 15 consecutive quarters. The addition of the iPhone to Sprint’s lineup will help it win customers, said Matthew Thornton, an analyst at Avian Securities LLC.

“Getting the iPhone closes that gap.”

Sprint already offers unlimited data plans for smartphones such as Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM)’s BlackBerry and HTC Corp. (2498)’s Evo, which runs on Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android operating system. Sprint’s unlimited voice and data service costs $99.99 a month.

AT&T and Verizon charge for data service on top of voice- service plans. Verizon’s data plans for the iPhone start at $30 a month for 2 gigabytes and rise to $80 for 10 gigabytes, in addition to unlimited voice service for $69.99 a month.

IPhone vs. Android

The iPhone may not lead to more data use per customer than Sprint already sees from customers who have Android phones. Apple dropped $6.66, or 1.7 percent, to $377.48 in Nasdaq Stock Market trading and has climbed 17 percent this year.

Earlier I posted on how to jailbreak iPad 3.2 firmware with spirit. Now I am going to explain how to jailbreak the iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.2/3.1.3 firmware os with Spirit. Compared other jailbreak tools, Spirit is much easier to use and it saves time.

Spirit is an untethered jailbreak tool, for iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch 2G/3G with 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 firmware and also the iPad 3.2 firmware OS, which is available for both Windows and Mac OS X. Here are the steps to jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS running 3.1.2/3.1.3 firmware OS.

NOTE: BeforeA beginning, it is better to take a backup of your iPhone 3G/3GS so that if there is any problem caused due to the jailbreak,A you could restore back the data and solve the problem.

1. Download the latest version of iTunes.

You can follow these step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPad 1:

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 (Mac and Windows) and save the application in a folder named "Redsn0w" on your desktop.
Step 2: You need to download both the iOS 4.3.4 and iOS 4.3.5 firmware files (use Firefox or Chrome to download the firmware file instead of using Internet Explorer or Safari):

iOS 4.3.4 firmware file for iPad 1 (iPad1,1_4.3.4_8K2_Restore.ipsw)

iOS 4.3.5 firmware file for iPad 1 (iPad1,1_4.3.5_8L1_Restore.ipsw)

Step 3: Double click the Redsn0w zip file and extract the application to the Redsn0w folder.
Step 4: Connect your iPad to the computer, which should automatically launch iTunes.Skip steps 5 and 6, if your iPad has already been upgraded to iOS 4.3.5.
Step 5: From the 'Devices' section on the left pane of iTunes, select your iPad device. Now, hold down the Shift button (Option button for Mac users) and click the 'Restore' button.
Step 6: Navigate to the Redsn0w folder on the desktop and select the downloaded iOS 4.3.5 firmware file (iPad1,1_4.3.5_8L1_Restore.ipsw). Click on the 'Choose' button to let iTunes update your iPhone with the required firmware. You will be asked to setup your iPad 1 either from a previous backup or setup as a new iPad, select the backup you want for your device (ideally should be the most recent one).Wait iTunes to finish.

Step 7: Navigate back to the Redsn0w folder and launch the Redsn0w application. Windows 7 users should run the exe in Windows XP compatibility mode.
Step 8: You will be asked to select the corresponding IPSW file. Click on the Browse button and select the iOS 4.3.4 firmware file (iPad1,1_4.3.4_8K2_Restore.ipsw). Note: iOS 4.3.4 firmware file and not the iOS 4.3.5 firmware file.
Step 9: Redsn0w will verify the firmware file and inform you if it has successfully identified it. Click on 'Next' to proceed.

Step 10: Redsn0w will now start preparing the jailbreak data.
Step 11: You will now be prompted to select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and select 'Next' to continue.
Step 12: You will now be prompted to switch OFF your iPad and plug it to the computer. Follow the instructions and click on 'Next' to move to the next screen:
Step 13: You will now need to put your iPad into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:
(a) Hold the Power button on iPad down for 3 seconds:
(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPad and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds:
(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w identifies the device:
Step 14: Your iPad should reboot now. Please remember to release the Home button.
Step 15: Redsn0w will now begin uploading the new RAM disk and kernel.
Step 16: You will now be notified once the jailbreaking process is complete. Click on the 'Finish' button to exit the application.
Step 17: Your iPad will reboot once again (which could take approximately 5 minutes). After it has rebooted, your iPad should be successfully jailbroken. You should find Cydia jailbreak app on your iPad’s home screen.
